Welcome to Max Rennies bus run tae 'Saltkits'

A nice wee email frae Linda Rennie My father, Maxi Rennie and many of his good friends would get together at "The Fair" and throughout the holidays to arrange away trips for the weans and the mums and dads.In those days (early 70's) bus runs to Saltcoats and Ayr were arranged and off the families would go on a trip to the seaside!

Keith Mitchell I believe was the "artist" of this sketch. Tam "the Kilt" was Faether Tam Finnigan, a well known figure in Neilston at the time. Another memory of the people involved was Jim Lindsay who used to play the "moothie" and kept the entertainment going there and back although going home most of the bus was sleeping!!! That is of course for the ones who caught the bus back home - there are a few still living who could tell a tale or two as to why they "missed the bus"!

The 'Mansion' ..... an email frae Tommy Cameron

Hello Dave, I was one of the children who lived at Nether Kirkton Mansion when it was a children's home.My name is Tommy Cameron. My bedroom was the top room above the front door, which i shared with my wee brother. The room was quite small it could fit two beds and two sets of drawers in it. I remember Mrs Macleod and Mrs Young, they were two of the best. I have more happy memories than bad, i used to climb up the drainpipe to my room with my pals (thinking i was spiderman) i played in the woods making dens (thinking i was an indian). I used to go up to the village to meet my pals most nights for a wee drink and the odd winch then maybe pop down to Auchenbach for a wee rammy with the locals.I remember on my way up to the village I would find a big stick and leave it at the front gate for on my way home when it got dark as it was quite scary for a wee man with all those trees and a long driveway to the house,( but with my big stick i felt like a big man.) Bless her Mrs MacDonalds the night nurse would be waiting for me with my tea and hot rolls.I have many more happy adventures to tell some other time. Here are a few names i remember of our wee gang in the village; Tony (Ashie) Martin; Alec Fleming; Alan Pattison; Willie Christianson; James Moonie; John Brooks;Bruce Sanderson;Janet Blair; Jan Mains; Grace Moore; Linda Harvey; Margaret Todd and many more. I would love to hear from Mrs Mac and Mrs Young to let them know how i'm doing and how they are.If you are interested to hear anymore of my happy times in the home please email me.
